Trey Pennington’s Light

We basked in it, we fed off of it.  Trey’s light was powerful, inspirational, sustaining. That is why the darkness is so hard to take right now.  And we want to DO something. But what?

Leave it to Trey’s tribe to create the Trey’s Light team.  They’re ready to walk October 9th and raise awareness about the suicide problem and how to prevent it. The Out of The Darkness walk is in Spartanburg and I hope you will join me.

We need to get offline. We need to connect. Real life connecting. Especially now.

Will I see YOU there? Hope so.

Suicide - stop it

Suicide rolled over my life, like a massive tsunami Sunday. Someone I thought could never truly lose hope, did.

Just before Trey Pennington took his life, he sent me a message, asking that if I ever told a story about him, “make it a good one.”

I would not see that message until dear friends on Twitter reached out to tell me what had happened.

So what “good” story can be told at a moment like this?

Sharing information that might stop someone else, is all I can think of.

@GaryBlackHC sent me this award winning video on prevention on Twitter this morning.

Please watch it and share it.

And please join me for the Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk in Spartanburg October 9th.  The heartbreak I’ve witnessed hosting this event is heartbreak I sadly now personally understand.

And if you spot someone on social media writing things that make you worry - here are instructions on what you should do.

If only. Trey Pennington

If only we’d had one more day. If only I’d known. If only I could have done more. If only Trey held on to HOPE.

The loss of Trey Pennington is so hard to take. So impossible to process.

But my friend Kamran Popkin said it best: Hope is all we have.  We MUST hold onto it.

If you feel like you can’t - call - even if it is not for you, but to help someone else 1-800-273-8255

On this link below you will find one of my earliest encounters with Trey Pennington.

He had me as a guest on his internet radio show in 2008.

I just listened to it again, and he spoke briefly about his personal tribe, his sweet children.

It’s hard to believe his voice has been silenced.

Thank you Trey for teaching us all, numbers mean nothing. It’s the relationships. It’s the people you help.

That is what really matters.  If only…

A VIDEO

Remembering my dear friend @TreyPennington one of the most extraordinarily generous social media forces, a bright light snuffed out today by darkness. If you ever feel you just can’t take it any more. PLEASE ask for help. PLEASE reach out.  My heart aches for his children.
